*Government Press Conference On The Ongoing Trials Of The November 26th, 2023 Foiled Coup Attempt 19th January 2024 UPDATES The Office of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Civic Education held a Press conference at Guma Building on Friday 19th of January 2024 to update the public on the ongoing trials relating to the November 26th failed coup attempt. The Minister of Information and Civic Education Honourable Chernor Bah in his opening remarks made it very clear that the trial process is guided by the rule of law and not in any way witch-hunting anyone. He added that the Government will continue to stick and abide by the principles of the rule of law. He furthered that the Government relies on evidence to ensure justice is served. Koita and 11 Others Charged with Treason and Other Offences

Koita and 11 Others Charged with Treason and Other Offences The Republic of Sierra Leone today charged Amadu Koita and 11 others, including ex police and correctional officers, for their roles in the 26th November, 2023 failed coup. The charges include treason, misprision of treason, harbouring, aiding, and abetting the enemy, among others. Eleven (11) accused persons were arraigned before Magistrate Santigie Bangura of the Magistrate Court No. 2 of Freetown. One of the accused persons, Bai Mahmoud Bangura, was reported sick and is currently admitted at the Kingtom Police Hospital. The case has therefore been adjourned to the 9th January 2023. All accused persons had legal representation. Other accused persons are expected to be charged in the coming days. The Ministry will continue to provide updates on the investigations and the efforts to bring justice to those responsible for the atrocities of the 26th November, 2023.
