IMF drops $20.8 million to the New Direction Government

GOVERNMENT OF SIERRA LEONE MINISTRY OF FINANCE PRESS RELEASE The International Monetary Fund Approves Sierra Leone's Economic Performance Under the Extended Credit Facility Programme on 5th June 2023 The Ministry of Finance. in collaboration with the Bank of Sierra Leone and the National Revenue Authority, wish to inform the general public that the Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund has, on 5" June  2023, approved the Economic Performance Programme of the Government of Sierra Leone, which will trigger immediate disbursement of about US$20.8 million. It is worth noting that the global economy is currently facing challenges occasioned by unprecedented overlapping multiple crises severely impacting all countries' economic fabric. The First Lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Dr. Fatima Jabbie Maada Bio, who has won numerous national and international awards, has been appointed by the UN Secretary General to a significant position in the UN.

In accordance with the United Nations General Assembly resolution on Zero

Waste (77/161) of 22 December 2022, it is with great pleasure that I appoint you as

a member of the Advisory Board of Eminent Persons on Zero Waste. The Board has

an important role to play in supporting zero-waste initiatives in the context of sustainable development. As a Board member, I trust that I can count on your knowledge, experience, expertise and commitment to promote zero-waste initiatives.

Given that the concept of "zero waste" is gaining attention worldwide as a

sustainable solution to reduce waste, redesign material use and production, promote a circular economy, and inform consumer choices, it is my hope that the multi-partner and multidisciplinary, regionally and gender balanced Board will work to publicize best practices and success stories and raise awareness to promote local and national zero-waste initiatives. The Terms of Reference of the Board are enclosed.

As convenor of the Advisory Board, I look forward to the work you will undertake with fellow Board Members to advance the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and I have asked the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to work closely with you. Focal points from these organizations will contact you soon about the onboarding process as well as with details for the first meeting of the Board in September 2023, in New York.

Even well-known Sierra Leoneans, including the previous Inspector General of Police, were given honorary PhDs by the university known as Dominion University. When it was determined that the aforementioned university lacks the integrity to grant such a credential, the IG subsequently declined the offer. A scammer from Sierra Leone has been captured by Guinean police.

  The person in the picture is actually Abdulai Jalloh, despite the fact that he is identified as a lecturer from Njala University under the name of Dr. Kanu. In early January of this year, he posted in a WhatsApp group in Kambia that he had scholarship chances and could help people acquire government pin codes, among other things, but that the offer was only valid for those from the South and east.   Someone sent him NLe1,500 for overseas study without realizing he was a scammer.  The scammer claimed that the entire application process for the scholarship cost 3,000 New Leone.  Later, the contacted person realized that he was not who he had been representing himself to be, and he immediately blocked the victim of his syndicate.  He once more perpetrated the same crime against Molai, another individual, and someone else.  In the pretense of an international scholarship, he demanded 3000 New Leones from each person.
