Price list for new admission to schools

MBSSE PUTS OUT A PRICE LIST FOR NEW ADMISSION TO SCHOOLS
 By Augustine Bamie Anthony

The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education in consultation with school authorities and Principals of Government and Government-Assited schools nationwide has released a price list for the sales of school items for new admission (JSS1, SSS1).

The purpose of this price list is to harmonize and regularize the sales of school items including pocket badge, neck tie, uniform, Hijab, Beret and Crest, belt, felt hat and band etc, in order to cater for the ordinary man, who wishes for his children to attend the school of their choice (Radical Inclusion).

Prior to the introduction of the free quality school education programme in 2018, admission to some schools in Sierra Leone was made practically impossible, regardless of candidates meeting the score or aggregate set. In addition to the huge and unpredictable admission fees requested, (thanks for the FQSE initiative, it has been radically removed by Government), the prices for the school colours were irritatingly and discriminatingly expensive for the earning of the ordinary man, hence their children could not attend their first choice schools.

The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary has put regulatory mechanism in place to ensure that the price list is fully adhered to. School authorities are therefore encouraged to do the following for every admission committee meetings; to display a copy of the price list on their respective school noticeboards for parents to read, invite at least one MBSSE official in their district to their admission committee meetings and give some leverage to parents to purchase some of the items outside the school should they request. Above all, the price lists of school items should not be a prerequisite for admission, especially when the candidates are eligible.

Parents and guardians are however encouraged to report any abnormalities during the admission process by a way of calling the 8060 toll-free line.
This is what transformation means in the education sector, all hands on deck.

Dr. John Idriss Lahai, the whistle-blower for fake degrees is "Social Medially dead". If you recall, in the year 2022, Dr. John Idriss Lahai, a whistle-blower who exposed a phony degree, attracted the attention of every patriotic Sierra Leonean. His activity came to light after it was found that numerous Sierra Leoneans had received honorary PhDs from a Waterloo, Western Rural District postsecondary institution that was not accredited. Even well-known Sierra Leoneans, including the previous Inspector General of Police, were given honorary PhDs by the university known as Dominion University. A scammer from Sierra Leone has been captured by Guinean police.

The person in the picture is actually Abdulai Jalloh, despite the fact that he is identified as a lecturer from Njala University under the name of Dr. Kanu. In early January of this year, he posted in a WhatsApp group in Kambia that he had scholarship chances and could help people acquire government pin codes, among other things, but that the offer was only valid for those from the South and east.   Someone sent him NLe1,500 for overseas study without realizing he was a scammer.  The scammer claimed that the entire application process for the scholarship cost 3,000 New Leone.  Later, the contacted person realized that he was not who he had been representing himself to be, and he immediately blocked the victim of his syndicate.  He once more perpetrated the same crime against Molai, another individual, and someone else.  In the pretense of an international scholarship, he demanded 3000 New Leones from each person. He accepted the cash and fled without telling them where he was.  The m
