By: Zacharia Jalloh Strategic Communications Unit, MIC.
The Deputy Statistician General Mr. Andrew Bob Johnny in a press briefing held at the Ministry of Information and Communications on the 2nd June 2022, disclosed that through the swift intervention of His Excellency Dr. Julius Maada Bio, Statistics Sierra Leone has been provided with Le 30 Billion to pay enumerators for their invaluable support to the just concluded nation wide and first ever digital Census in Sierra Leone.
Mr. Johnny thanked and appreciated the supervisors and enumerators for their patriotic work in collecting data across the nation. He described their contribution to the process as "priceless".
However, he mentioned that, so far Le 18 Billion has been processed and payments have been made. He said what is delaying the process is the verification and the bank system for transparency purposes because the money is from government.
He continued to appeal to those who are yet to be paid to exercise patience and that there is money and all those that worked in the field will be paid. He mentioned that, President Bio has asked them to ensure that all enumerators are paid and no one is left out.
In appreciating the President, he disclosed that, President Bio with just a phone call, talked to his colleague and brother President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya to support Sierra Leone with tablets. Over 20,000 census tablets were donated by the Government of Kenya. He also disclosed that, almost all tablets have been collected and only 2% of the tablets are in the hands of enumerators. That notwithstanding, all data in every tablet were synced to the head office.
He described the Census as credible and promised that the official launch of the Census result by His Excellency the President Dr. Julius Maada Bio will soon be communicated.
